How to Set Up LED Strip Lights On Site

LED site light setup options

Proper lighting can make or break a job site, which is why we introduced The Site Light to Australian workers. These LED strip lights are a game-changer for dark construction sites and warehouses, achieving even full-length lighting that covers the entire space. Their flexibility, durability, and easy setup really ensures you get the most out of your site lighting. Here are the ways you can set up an LED light strip for the best results.

1. Hook or Tie Along Scaffolding, Frames, and Other Structures

Using lead hooks, ties, or clips, you can hang or secure the cable from virtually anything — most commonly from metal or timber frames and scaff poles.

2. Mount Along Ceilings

Ceiling-mounted LED strips are ideal for long-term projects — especially during internal fit-outs or refurbishments where overhead access is available. Elevating the strip allows the light to spread over a wider area, and keeps it out of the way. Secure it to beams or ceiling joists using staples, screws, or mounting clips. If working with concrete or steel, use adhesive-backed clips, magnetic mounts, or suspension cables.

3. Wrap Around Poles or Beams

Because the flexible cable is really easy to move and position, you don’t need any equipment to install it — you can simply wrap it around structures. Spiral the LED strip around poles or beams to illuminate areas where your mounting options are limited.

4. Lay Along Floors or Skirting Boards (with caution)

Another equipment-free setup option is to just lie the LED strips along the floor. This can light up a path in hallways and other spaces where ground-level visibility is best. Make sure that the light is not posing a tripping hazard. If you’re illuminating high-traffic areas, it’s best to secure the LED strip to the floor with a mounting clip.

Common Questions About Setting Up The Site Light

Where should I set up my LED strip lighting?

Before setting up your light, take a moment to identify:

  • Dark zones and shadowed corners
  • High-traffic pathways with low natural light
  • Areas where detailed work will take place
  • Opportunities for elevated mounting i.e. hooking or wrapping along ceilings or higher structures
What cable length do I need?

We have 15m, 25m, and 50m cables — and you can always buy two of our cables in any size to connect them together (100m of length maximum).

The 15m cable is great in small areas such as attics and single rooms. The 25m and 50m cables are ideal for larger sites. To estimate how many metres of LED strip you'll need, go off the site dimensions. Keep in mind that wrapping the cable around structures, corners, or bend requires more length than a straight run.

Where’s best to position it — high or low?

Elevating the Site Light above the floor will increase its range and reduce obstruction. This also helps minimise ground-level clutter and spreads light more effectively over large areas. That being said, ground-level illumination along skirting boards is still a really great option if you’re low on time or need to work around overhead tools and structures.

Do I need to secure the power cables for the LED site light?

Yes. You should ensure all cables are safely routed to prevent tripping hazards — however, the Site Light’s power lead is long enough that you don’t need extension cords. It also plugs directly into standard 240V AC power outlets, eliminating the need for external transformers or power converters.
