LED Construction Light Safety Guidelines

LED Construction Light Safety Guidelines

How to Stay Safe When Using Your LED Strip Light

When it comes to lighting solutions, The Site Light LED strip offers powerful illumination, energy efficiency, and setup flexibility in a portable and convenient design. But like any electrical product, proper installation and usage are essential for safety and performance.

Take a moment to review these important safety guidelines before setting up your LED Strip Light, to ensure your safety and the longevity of your lighting.

Important Warnings Before You Begin

1. Disconnect Power First

Ensure the power supply is turned off at the source before installation or maintenance.

2. Don’t Operate While Coiled

Flexible lighting should never be turned on while tightly coiled — in other words, don’t switch it on while it’s still wound on the drum. This can cause overheating and pose a fire risk.

3. Avoid Covering the Strip

Covering the LED strip can trap heat, leading to melting or even ignition. Allow for proper ventilation.

General Safety Guidelines

To ensure long-term performance and safety:

  • Maintain Proper Spacing: Leave at least 12mm between any flexible light cables or parts to prevent overheating.
  • Don’t Alter the Strip: Never puncture, cut, shorten, or splice the strip. In the event of an accidental cut or puncture, switch it off immediately.
  • Avoid Hazardous Routing: Do not route the lights through walls, doors, or windows where they may be pinched or damaged.
  • Inspect Regularly: Check periodically for wear or damage to the cord or insulation. Do not use the product if damage is found.
  • Keep Away from Water: These lights are not designed to be submerged or installed in areas where they may be exposed to standing water.
  • Use Proper Fixings: Always secure the strip using hangers or clips. Avoid using staples, nails, or anything that could damage the strip itself.
  • No Continuous Flexing: Flexible lights are not designed to be bent back and forth repeatedly or continuously. Plan your installation accordingly to minimise over-flexing.
  • Don’t Overextend: Do not exceed the maximum connection limit. For this product, the maximum run length is 100 metres.

Things to Avoid

  • Bending the strip to a diameter smaller than 2.7 inches (approx. 7 cm)
  • Folding or creasing the light strip for extended periods while turned on
  • Bending the strip along a horizontal plane
  • Applying pressure to the strip with heavy materials like glass or acrylic
